Industrial lead-acid storage battery can be widely used in telecommunications, mobile, Unicom, railway, ships and other communications, signal system backup power, power system, nuclear power plant backup power, solar, wind power generation and energy storage system, as well as UPS, emergency lighting and other backup power. In deep and shallow cycle applications, improvements in lead battery technology have increased cycle life. The use of lithium ions and other types of batteries for energy storage will be discussed to demonstrate the technical and economic effectiveness of lead batteries. Lead batteries are more sustainable than other types of batteries.
Using battery energy storage is recognized as one of the most important and effective ways to stabilize power networks, with a variety of different battery chemicals available. Lead batteries are well established in automotive and industrial applications and have been successfully used in utility energy storage, but there are a number of competing technologies for energy storage, including lithium-ion batteries, sodium-sulfur batteries and flow batteries. The technology of lead battery and its better application in energy storage are introduced. Lead batteries have a long service life and a longer life in recent years than 20 years ago when the battery cannot be fully charged. Lithium-ion batteries have advantages in terms of energy density and specific energy, but this is less important for static installations.
